The Happy Hounds!

My name is Freddie.  Sadly, I’m the only member of the McGhee Happy Hounds left.  We were quite the trio.  Mom called us the Princess, the Steadfast Soldier and the Court Jester.  I’m the wild and crazy one.  We came together as a family beginning with Magnolia in 2010, Hogan in 2012 and then in 2018 I came along as a surprise in 2018.  It was my first birthday and Mom’s 50^th. 

We were the best of the friend and each of us had a role.  Hogan protected Mom and the rest of us.  Dad did a lot of traveling back then.  Magnolia, the only non-rescue among us thought she was a princess and we were all instructed to treat her as one.  Demanding and stubborn, it was ALL about her.  Being rescues, Hogan and I were grateful for what we received.  I’ll hand it to her though, she had an elegant air and was drop dead gorgeous.  She should have been on the silver screen. 

My role was comic relief.  I was the court jester and did it willingly even though all I really wanted to do was go outside and hunt chipmunks and cats.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a good tummy rub and scratch.  I learned from Mags and Hogan.  Mags taught me the art of treat manipulation.  Hogan taught me to hunt and protect.  Good thing too, since they were both several years older than me.  Now I am left to watch over Mom who grieves for them still. 

The truth of it is that I miss them too.  By the time I arrived Mags and Hogan were bonded but they took me in and welcomed me as a family member and I know that doesn’t always happen.  Mom used to watch us, marveling at how we learned to communicate. 

We are running for the 2025 calendar contest as the loving trio that we were.  Please help me honor Magnolia and Hogan’s legacy and vote for us.
